Stanzler Fund FAQs

The goals of the MSF are threefold:

• Advance the mission of the Schwartz Center
• Create access to Schwartz Center membership and program implementation and reduce financial burden for healthcare organizations in under-resourced communities
• Advance the Schwartz Center’s efforts to diversify our member community

To be considered for funding, healthcare organizations must meet the following criteria:

• Located in the United States
• Serve a population or patient mix as outlined in the Grant Funding description
• Be designated as a 501(c)(3) organization or have an identified fiduciary
• Have an organizational commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging
• Demonstrate clear financial need
• Participate in or view a recording of a Schwartz Center informational webinar prior to applying
• Have an identified project leader who will serve as the main point of contact with the Schwartz Center for the MSF application and materials
• Provide a letter of support from a member of C-suite at their organization
• Commitment to host a minimum of two Schwartz Rounds^® sessions within the first year of implementation and six Schwartz Rounds sessions per year thereafter for the duration of each grant cycle
• Agree to have a Schwartz Center staff person observe and provide feedback for one Schwartz Rounds session within the first year of program implementation and every year thereafter
• Agree to collect and submit session and attendee summary data after each Schwartz Rounds session

The MSF works to improve the well-being and mental health for healthcare workers at organizations serving under-resourced communities in the United States. Specifically, this fund provides to organizations that serve one or more of these communities characterized by:

• Historically marginalized populations, such as BIPOC and LGBTQ+
• Geographically remote areas, where acute care facilities are limited
• A significant proportion of Medicaid-eligible patients and families

Currently we are only accepting applications for organizations in the U.S.

Recognizing the investment of staff resources at grant recipient organizations, the MSF grants cover the cost of membership and Schwartz Rounds training, onboarding and ongoing support for the life of the grant.

Grant recipients may reapply for renewed support every two years thereafter. 

Recognizing the investment of staff resources at grant recipient organizations, the MSF grants provide membership and program support for three years during the initial award period.

Grant recipients may reapply for renewed support every two years thereafter.

Each grant recipient organization is required to sign a Schwartz Center membership agreement, Schwartz Rounds addendum, and MSF amendment prior to membership. The membership start date is upon fully executed membership agreement and addendum.

The grant cycle opened on June 1, 2024. Grant applications were due by 5:00 PM EST on Friday, August 30.

Applicants can expect to hear from the Schwartz Center regarding their status in October 2024.

Awarded applicants will have two weeks to accept and return required forms identifying an agreement signatory and Schwartz Rounds Leadership Team to move forward with Schwartz Center membership.

Grant recipients are eligible to apply for renewal following the initial 3-year grant cycle and every two years thereafter. Grant renewals are not guaranteed and are conditional on meeting renewal criteria at the end of each grant cycle.

Applicants must meet the eligibility criteria outlined above. Recipients are selected by a grant review committee.
