Since our inception, the Schwartz Center for Compassionate Healthcare has been changing the way healthcare is delivered for hundreds of thousands of caregivers, patients and their families. We do this through a consistent focus on the value of compassion in the delivery and experience of care.
Today, the scourge of violence and community tragedy impacts all corners of our society. Healthcare professionals giving care and comfort to patients and families affected by senseless violence also experience these traumas in a uniquely painful way. Building on our efforts after the Boston Marathon bombing, the Schwartz Center continues to provide programs and resources to support these caregivers following these tragedies. At our 2018 Annual Kenneth B. Schwartz Compassionate Healthcare Dinner, we were honored to convene and recognize caregivers who have demonstrated tremendous compassion and resilience in the face of such events.
In the year ahead, we look forward to expanding the reach of our Schwartz Rounds program, assembling professionals from around the globe to engage at our September Compassion in Action Healthcare Conference, and introducing new programs – all to advance compassionate care.

At our recent annual dinner, Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker presented the 2018 National Compassionate Caregiver of the Year Award to Terry Stancin, PhD, ABPP. Terry is a clinical psychologist and director of child and adolescent psychiatry and psychology at a county safety net medical center who has devoted herself to providing the highest quality, empathic healthcare to some of the most at-risk kids, for more than three decades.

Philanthropy remains the primary source of revenue for the Schwartz Center. Our membership program, now in its fifth year, comprises 41% of total net revenues.
During Fiscal Year 2018, 77% of all spending was directed to mission-specific programming. Fundraising and administrative costs represent the remainder. Fiscal Year 2018 resulted in income from operations of $0.3M.
